Inspired by the aesthetics of the late 50’s and early 60’s and named after my favorite oldies love song, Beyond the Sea is a two-color spiral shaped shawl knitted flat and in one piece. This shawl uses slipped stitches and short rows so that only one color is worked per row, but don’t be scared off - this shawl is very simple and would be a fun introduction to short rows for any knitters new to the concept.

Yarn Requirements:

  • 2 skeins of Miss Babs Hot Shot, 1 of each color, OR
  • 400 yards/366 meters in each color of fingering weight yarn

Other tools needed:

  • US size 4/3.5mm circular needles (for knitting flat) or size needed to obtain gauge, 10 stitch markers, pins for blocking.

This shawl has one size, and the finished dimensions are:
width: 46 inches on short side, 95 inches on long side
depth: approximately 8 inches deep

Note: Gauge is not critical in this project, but a looser gauge may require more yarn than listed.
