Bergen Cardigan
The Bergen Cardigan is a stunning creation that beautifully combines Scandinavian motifs with a touch of Fair Isle knitting influence. This design was born out of a desire to adorn a simple, wearable shape with intricate all-over patterning featuring gorgeous colorwork motifs. The cardigan boasts a comfortable, relaxed fit with modified drop shoulder sleeves. The button bands and neckband are skillfully worked in corrugated ribbing, adding a distinctive texture to the piece. Even the hems and cuffs are adorned with the same corrugated ribbing, creating a harmonious and intricate look. It’s truly a masterpiece that brings together the best of Scandinavian and Fair Isle knitting traditions.
The sweater is worked from the bottom up. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches in the body. In order for the colourwork pattern to flow continuously around the body without interruption by side seams, the right front, back and left front are worked in a single piece to the armholes. Then the fronts and back are worked separately to the shoulders. Neckband and button-bands are picked up to finish. Sleeves are knit flat and seamed.
