Bell Beck Jumper
MY DESIGN IDEAS AND ADVICE
The Bell Beck Jumper is a perfect project for beginners or for those returning to knitting after many years. So many knitters who visit the Purl &Jane Skipton studio tell me they’re picking up their needles again after 30 or even 40 years, and this jumper is a great way to ease back in.
The design starts with just two simple squares – helping you build confidence before moving on to the gentle sleeve increases. It’s a true starter or refresher knit, designed to bring back the joy of making.
Garter stitch is one of my favourite stitches. I’ve heard some knitters describe it as “too basic”, which always surprises me! To me, it’s beautifully simple – the foundation of all that is wonderful in knitting. And when paired with the right yarn, it creates something truly special.
Originally featured in my Knitted with Love book (currently out of print), this pattern is now available as a single design so more knitters can enjoy its soothing, timeless appeal.
CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop shoulder.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, increasing on the sleeves, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
