This pattern is available for free.

The year my youngest was seven, she said that she wanted to go as a bat for Hallowe’en. What could be easier? Black pants, fake vampire teeth, cut out a black shawl in the shape of bat wings and glue them to the underside of the sleeves of a black shirt! The crowning touch: a “pussy hat”, but in black. Accordingly, I whipped this pattern up to fit my kid and voilà - one candy-hungry bat! It’s super-simple and quick to work up, so I wanted to make it available for free for anyone else who was interested.

  • Knitting
  • Purling
  • Long-tail cast-on
  • Working in the round
  • Three-needle bind-off

Yarn requirements

Model shown used 34g. Yarn label unfortunately does not provide yardage, but based on other 100% acrylic yarns giving similar gauge, you’re likely looking at needing about 65 yards; probably maximum 85 yards.
