The Basic Ribbed Beanie is both our simplest hat pattern and the winter wardrobe staple everyone needs! Written for two weights of yarn and available in five sizes from Baby to Large Adult, you’ll be able to keep yourself and everyone you love warm and cozy with this effortless knit. 
Perfect for beginning knitters looking to level up their brand new knit and purl skills, this pattern is extremely forgiving to hiccups in gauge and tension, and will come out looking fantastic every time! Suitable for either DK or bulky weight yarn, this is truly a choose-your-own adventure hat!
DK Weight Hat
Materials 
1 skein Farmer’s Daughter Pushkin DK (255yds/100g) 
or 85 (110, 150) 190, 230 yards of DK weight yarn.
or 1 skein Ístex Lopi Einband (273yds/50g) & 1 skein 
Farmer’s Daughter Oh Dang! (328yds/50g), held together.
or 85 (110, 150) 190, 230 yards each of two lace weight 
yarns, held together.
Tools 
Check your gauge and adjust needle size if necessary.
US 4 (3.5mm), 16’’/40cm circulars 
US 4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles 
Or needles for preferred method of working hats in the round. 
1 stitch marker, a tapestry needle
Gauge 
20 sts & 30 rows to 4”, worked in 3x3 rib, measured when 
fabric is gently stretched to flatten ribs.
Bulky Weight Hat
Materials 
1 skein of Ístex Álafosslopi (109 yds/100 g) 
or 40 (50, 70) 80, 100 yards of bulky weight yarn.
or 40 (50, 70) 80, 100 yards each, of two worsted 
weight yarns, like Fancy Tiger Heirloom Romney, held together.
Tools 
Check your gauge and adjust needle size if necessary. 
US 11 (8mm), 16’’/40cm circulars 
US 11 (8mm) double pointed needles 
Or needles for preferred method of working hats in the round. 
1 stitch marker, a tapestry needle
Gauge 
9 sts & 17 rows to 4”, worked in 3x3 rib and measured 
when fabric is gently stretched to flatten ribs.
