BAO BAO hat
For pattern support, please find the questions thread here
The BAO BAO hat
is a beautiful companion to the BAO BAO shawl.
The hat is worked in rounds from the crown down to the doubled brim and features the beautiful and fun stitch pattern I used for the HEIMATHAFEN pullover.
Using the dip stitch stripe pattern “all over” creates this super cute retro look.
The crown of the hat looks exactly like a granny square and could be a starting point for many “spin-offs”.
Starting with no more than 8 sts, increases are worked every 2 rounds at 4 points.
Color changes are worked every 4 rounds.
The cute and easy dip stitch pattern could be worked with many colors for a playful result (and to help stash busting ;) or with 3 colors (as shown) for a more sophisticated and sportive look.
An optional pompom can be worked last.
Yarn
76 yds (69 m) in C1, 66 yds (60 m) in C2, 55 yds (50 m) in C3
of a heavy fingering to sport weight yarn
Note: Yardage doesn’t include the gauge swatch and the optional pompom.
for the sample, I used:
Le Woolle NOCCIOLE [197 yds (180m) /50g];
in colors BRINA (C1), ZUCCA (C2) and NOTTE (C3)
Needles
US 4 (3.5 mm) DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for the crown
US 4 (3.5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle for the body
US 2 1/2 (3 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle for the brim
Gauge
20 sts x 36 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square in dip stitch stripe pattern after blocking.
Notions
Stitch markers, 1 removable stitch marker, tapestry needle, blocking tools, pompom maker (optional).
Size - one size (adjustable)
