Materials suggested: 120 g fine art-silk and steel needles size 3/0 for an approx. size of 110 x 80 cm/43 x 31½“. (Old German needle size)

Original instructions call for 120 grams of fine rayon and “Stahlstricknadeln Nr. 3/0”, a fine steel knitting needle between 1.25 and 1.5mm, for a finished size 110cm x 80cm. (The photo shows the cloth blocked into an oval - it could also be blocked into a circle.)
Cast on 12 stitches, repeat the chart 12 times per round through Rnd 67. Repeat the chart from Rnd 69-83 seventy-two times in a round, repeating rnds 69-83 three more times to rnd 131. Repeat Rnd. 133-141 seventy-two times in a round, then purl 7 rounds. From Rnd 169 to the end, repeat the chart 36 times per round.
