notes
I love the panels of small patterns used in traditional gansey sweaters. In fact, I find them irresistable. In Anneke, I wanted to combine a classic gansey yoke with a modern swingy silhouette. I cut off the pattern panel a little before it might have been on a fisherman’s sweater. On this wide and comfy sweater, the shorter proportion seemed to be just about right. The sweater would look good, too, in Finch, in a more saturated color. But I love the faded look of Tern, the wool/silk blend I used.
Anneke is an oversized, drop-shoulder pullover with ¾-length sleeves. The body is worked in the round from hem to underarm. Front and back are separated and worked flat with a gansey-patterned panel. Shoulders are shaped with short rows. Shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind off with the WS facing inward, creating an exposed seam. Sleeve stitches are picked up and knitted around armholes and worked in the round to the cuff. Stitches are then picked up and knitted around neck opening for a short ribbed trim with a shaping detail.
The gansey bib is longer at the back than in the front.
If you prefer a hidden seam at the shoulders, work the three-needle BO with RS facing inward instead.
