Andiron Cardigan
Andiron Cardigan features lots of texture with an all over knit-purl pattern and elegant cables running along the center front edges. Deep garter stitch trims lend the style a jacket-like feel, and with the comfort of a sweater you’ll be throwing this on over every outfit. Instructions are included to adapt the cardigan into a vest if that’s more your style! Choose a solid or semi-solid aran weight yarn to best show off the texture.
This pattern requires knowledge of basic cables, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, and seaming. All stitch patterns are fully written and fully charted so you can work with your preferred method. Detailed schematic and measurement table is included, along with a seaming diagram to guide you through each step of final construction. The pattern also includes a tutorial on working partial stitch pattern repeats.
Suggested Yarn: Jill Draper Makes Stuff Empire, or other aran/ heavy worsted weight yarn that knits to gauge
Sizes: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 68)” / 81.5 (91.5, 101.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5, 162.5, 172.5) cm
The pattern photos show the 40” size, worn on a 38” full bust (worn with 2” of positive ease). The sizing is based off of the back measurement, as the cardigan has open fronts which can overlap slightly (with the large cables overlapping) if pinned closed. The open fronts allow an easy fit in the body with some flexibility in sizing. To achieve a similar look, choose a size that is the same size as your full bust measurement or up to 4” bigger. If you plan on wearing lots of layers or thicker (DK weight or heavier) sweaters underneath this cardigan, you could size up one size from the typical recommendation for your measurements.
