Alpine Cup Cozy
I’ve crocheted and used almost fifty different coffee cozies and other beverage sleeves over the years, and this simple version remains one of my favorites to use in real life.
This is simple, quick and easy crochet for a last-minute gift or for using up a leftover ball of yarn. Its toasty woolly goodness is especially satisfying on the coldest winter day, with a matching pair of Ugg® boots and a hot chocolate with marshmallows.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. The pattern includes my design tips for optimizing a cozy’s safety and usefulness.
Alpine Cup Cozy was originally called “Tulip Coffee Cozy” (due to its rim) and was one of the first crochet patterns I added to my own design line. The pattern is specifically designed for crocheters still getting the hang of crocheting from patterns.
For men, just use a darker, neutral color and leave off the ‘tulip’ edging for a gender-neutral beverage sleeve.
Pattern abbreviations have been kept to a minimum. International English equivalents for American measurements, yarn weights, and stitch terms are in brackets {}.
After using this pattern you will know (if you didn’t already)
- How to join in a ring and work in the round
- An easy, pretty edging that will come in handy for other projects
- The importance of a locking slip knot and a well-fitted cozy
Finished Dimensions
Fits standard paper coffee cups as used in the USA; cozy is 3.5in/9cm by 3.25in/8cm wide (at inside bottom rim) and 4in/10cm wide (at inside top).
