Alpaca Silk Morning Coat
Silky softness with the warmth of alpaca combine to make this coat ideal for a lazy relaxing morning. Small pearl beads embellish the quilted lattice yolk of the coat and add sparkle and elegance. Pleats in the front, back and sleeves exaggerate the lovely drape of this coat. The front enclosure is done with ribbons but could easily be hook and eye or a button and loop closure.
The front yolk and back are knit from the sleeve edge to centre front. The yolk is sewn to the fronts and back using an overlay method to allow the knit edge to curl creating a faux piping. Beads are added using the crochet hook every fourth row so not too time consuming and the effect is lovely. All edges have facings completed during construction with the exception of the neck edge. A circular needle is used to create the facing. The pattern has all four sizes and the yarn is Canadian from princessfarms.com.
This design won a third place ribbon at the Calgary Western Showcase in the open knitting category July 2013.
