Almond Shawl
This design is a part of The Sun and Fog collection. In the days when we all could use a uniting crafting project, local yarn dyers and designers came up with a special collection of knit and crochet designs celebrating community and togetherness from the foggy shores to the sunny valleys of California.
Inspired by Italian almond lace cookies, this design is similarly addictive and crisp. Full of texture and open lace patterns, Almond Shawl is embellished with bobbles, and optional tassels can be added for an extra touch of boho.
The shawl is completed in a V-shape and uses up just two skeins of beautiful handdyed Eureka Fingering from Sincere Sheep. Alternating stripe patterns keep you entertained and are very satisfying to crochet. Depending on the gauge and available yardage, you can increase/decrease the length of a shawl by repeating/skipping some of the stripes to use up all the yarn from a skein without any leftovers.
The pattern contains both written row-by-row instructions (with detailed stitch counts) and charts.
Size:
- Wingspan 73” / 186cm + tassels
- Width 14” / 36cm
- Depth along the center 22” / 56cm Depending on the gauge and available yardage, your project may differ in size
Yarn:
- Sincere Sheep Eureka Fingering (100% rambouillet, 3.5oz / 100g, 500yds / 457m); color A: Eugenia (light coral), 1 skein; color B: Bare (off-white), 1 skein
- OR 2 colors of fingering weight yarn, each: approximately 500yds / 457m
- The pattern is easy to modify for another yardage as well.
Hook and Gauge:
- US 7 / 4.5mm or the size needed to obtain gauge of 12 sts and 12 rows in 4” / 10cm in double crochet, blocked
- For any other yarn: use hook at least two sizes up from stated on the label to keep fabric airy and light
- Gauge is not crucial and can be changed to fit the desired yarn. Note that difference in gauge will affect the final size of a shawl.
Construction:
- The shawl is worked in the shape of a modified triangle with a V-line at the top of the item.
- Sequences of stripes in several stitch patterns make crocheting Almond Shawl entertaining and fun. You can increase/decrease the length of a shawl by repeating/skipping some of the stripes.
- The edge is embellished with bobbles to provide it with a subtle scalloped shape. This step can be skipped if desired.
- Tassels can be added for an extra touch of boho and to make corners look more polished. A video tutorial for double tassels is provided.
