All Who Wander Scarf & Cowl
Whether you love to play with color combinations or have leftover yarn to use up, what better way to use it than making a scarf or cowl?
The textured knitting pattern is based on what I had used for The Wanderer Pullover, changing colors with each band of the pattern. Make the cowl or scarf all in one color, or use a color combination of your choosing to customize it.
The scarf, as shown, measures 59 1/2” (151 cm) long and 8 3/4” (22 cm) wide. The first stitch of every row is slipped to give you a smooth edge along each side of the scarf, and work begins and ends with about 1 1/2” (4 cm) of garter stitch. Color changes are made on the last stitch of the row so that when you slip the first stitch of the next row, that slipped stitch is the same color as the new row.
The cowl is 21” (53.5 cm) in circumference and 7 1/4” (18.5 cm) long. Beginning and ending with 3 rounds of garter stitch, it uses the same pattern as the scarf while omitting the slipped stitches and garter side borders.
Yarn used:
Color A (#5508 Oatmeal): 20 yds (18 m) for the Cowl, and 166 yds (152 m) for the Scarf
Color B (#5525 Sedge): 22 yds (20 m) for the Cowl, and 46 yds (42 m) for the Scarf
Color C (#5534 Ripe Wheat): 24 yds (22 m) for the Cowl, and 82 yds (75 m) for the Scarf
Color D (#5528 Irish Emerald): 27 yds (25 m) for the Cowl, and 82 yds (75 m) for the Scarf
Color E (#5538 Burgundy): 27 yds (25 m) for the Cowl, and 42 yds (38 m) for the Scarf.
If you’re choosing your own color combination, each row of the scarf uses approximately 1 yd (.9 m) of yarn, and each round of the cowl uses approximately 2 1/2 yds (2.3 m) of yarn.
