Mittens are more of an aesthetic, fashionable accessory than a real necessity in the city where I live. Here the icy cold weather only lasts a few days, so wearing them is mostly a reminder of the festive season, and of those silly romantic films that you could only watch during this special time of the year. Yet, when the cold weather, with its snowy days and its icy northerly wind, really hits Genova, being able to wear a pair of mittens becomes a real pleasure. These mittens in particular were inspired by that romantic, warm and cozy feeling you only get during the coldest winter days. The super-easy lace pattern and the buttoned wrist band, which tightens the mittens at the wrist, give them a feminine and elegant look, while the garter stitch of the body and thumb, as well as the yarn (Rowan Felted Tweed Aran), give it a more country yet refined look. These mittens are knitted in the round (no sewing required) and in one piece, while the stitches for the thumb are left on hold and picked up later to complete them. The wrist cuff is a bit tighter than the rest of the mitten thanks to the use of smaller needles to work it as well as some decrease rounds.

Le moffole, per me che vivo in una città dove il freddo si fa sentire per pochi giorni l’anno, sono un accessorio più che altro estetico, futile ma affascinante, perché mi fanno pensare al Natale, a quei film romantici e un po’ sdolcinati che si riescono a guardare solo in quel particolare periodo dell’anno. Quando però il freddo arriva anche a Genova, nevica e la Tramontana punge, potermi infilare un paio di moffole è il massimo. Queste, in particolare, sono ispirate proprio a quella sensazione di romanticismo e di voglia di coccole che viene nelle giornate più fredde e più magiche dell’anno. Il facilissimo motivo traforato e il cinturino con il bottone applicato, a stringere leggermente il polso, le rendono molto femminili ed eleganti, mentre il palmo e il pollice a legaccio e il filato Rowan Felted Tweed Aran gli danno un tocco rustico e raffinato al tempo stesso. Le moffole sono eseguite in tondo, senza cuciture e in un unico pezzo, il pollice è lavorato in un secondo tempo a partire da un gruppo di maglie lasciate in sospeso mentre si lavora il palmo. Il polso si stringe leggermente grazie all’uso di ferri di un numero inferiore a quelli usato per tutto il resto del modello e ad alcune diminuzioni.
