A tiling of interlocking figures such as circles, squares, or hexagons may lead the viewer’s eye from one to another figure. But after a while, the viewer’s focus tends to flip back and forth between them. This type of reverse tiling of interlocking figures is often found in Arabic ornamentation, such as in designs at the Alhambra, a fourteenth-century castle in Granada, Spain.
The stranded pattern in these socks will appear more prominent if you choose two colors with sharp contrast. For even more visual appeal, reverse the main and contrast colors for the second sock, as shown in the red-and-orange version on page 59.
Sizes: About 7¾ (8½)“ (19.5 21.5 cm) foot circumference, unstretched, and 8¾ (11)” (22 28) foot length from back of heel to tip of toe (length is adjustable). To fit U.S. women’s shoe sizes 5½–6½ (11–12); European shoe sizes 36–38 (44–46).
