Alberesque
The vertical and horizontal lines in this scarf are inspired by the geometric wall hanging designs of Anni Albers, who was famous for her work in the weaving workshop at the Bauhaus school of art. The scarf is knitted flat using slipped stitch (mosaic) technique using just one yarn at a time.

Yarn
Ullcentrum 2-ply, 100% wool (approx 300m/328yd per 100g skein):
1 skein 6/2-0102 lightest grey (light grey Gotland) (A)
1 skein 6/2-0103 mid grey (medium grey Gotland) (B)
1 skein 6/2-2133 lion on grey (lion yellow on dark Gotland) (C)
1 skein 6/2-1143 cerise on grey (cerise dark Gotland) (D)
The colour descriptions given are a combination of those per the Ullcentrum website and Midwinter Yarns (who are a UK stockist of the yarn).
Yarn substitution:
Allow the following approximate quantities of a heavy fingering or sport weight yarn:
A – 195m/215yd
B – 225m/245yd
C – 145m/160yd
D – 145m/160yd
Quantities may vary depending upon gauge and type of yarn used.
Needles and Notions
3mm/US 2.5 (or size required to obtain gauge over slipped stitch colourwork) preferred needle(s) for medium width flat knitting.
Tapestry needle for finishing, stainless steel pins for blocking (optional).
Gauge
27 sts and 54 rows to 10cm/4in, after wet-blocking, over slipped stitch pattern worked flat. (Note: in slipped stitch sections, each set of 4 rows includes 2 rows of slipped stitches. For ease, count rows in garter stitch edges.) Gauge achieved using 3mm (US 2.5) needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.
Measurements and Sizing
One size: width 22cm/8.75in, length 185cm/74in.
Skills Required
The pattern uses slipped stitch (mosaic) colourwork technique, which is fully charted with written instructions requiring no prior knowledge. Knowledge of long-tail cast-on is assumed.
