Ada Dress
This dress was influenced by the Eloe dress designed by Ada Wolfstein over 50 years ago in 1964 for her daughter. The freshness of the classic style achieves what Shirley strived for in her designs, which is timelessness. Although the Eloe dress was Shirley’s design inspiration, she did not use the pattern stitches that Ada had used, but she did use the shaping elements and pattern layout direction that she used. For example, Ada’s dress was flared at the bottom with one motif separating the flaring panels. That separating pattern was then worked from that bottom flare through the main pattern separations in the body of the dress, ending at the bust. There are also 3 different types of lace patterns used in the Eloe dress and in Shirley’s Ada dress.
