A Well-Bred Plum
For a tweedy look, two strands of lighter weight yarn are held together in this classically styled pattern. A suggested yarn alternative uses a single strand of Rowan Scottish Tweed 4ply Aran in place of the first two suggested yarns, but the look will be different. The recommended yarns have been discontinued but a variegated Aran weight yarn would be an acceptable substitute. The Sensuwool is used as trim yarn, and 192 yds. are needed for any size.
- Directions for five sizes are given ranging from a finished chest measurement of 39.75 inches (101cm) to 52.5 inches (133cm) finished chest measurement with standard (approximately 4 inches, 10cm) ease. Metric conversions supplied by Ravelry editor. A schematic supplies other pattern measurements.
- The body is knit back and forth in a single piece. Modified drop shoulder sleeves are worked flat. Pockets are knit in.
- Circular needles in both sizes are recommended.
- 9-10 buttons 7/8inch (23mm) Stitch holders and markers will be needed.
This pattern originally appeared in Knitter’s Magazine 52, Fall 1998, page 48.
