Knitting on the bias is a great technique that is really easy to do. Knitting like this means you can use ANY YARN to knit these bags, from thin to thick, commercial or handspun.

The bag is a flared A line shape made from four stocking stitch pieces (two fronts, two backs). It is fastened with a garter stitch flap and a large button. The strap is knitted and lined with tape to stop it stretching.

Finished size of the bag: 40cm (16in) wide at base, 20cm (8in) high excluding handles.

Stitches used:
Cast on, knit, purl, picking up stitches (diagram), increasing: knit into front and back of stitch(diagram), decreasing: k2tog, k2tog tbl, p2tog, p2tog tbl (diagrams).

Materials
Any yarn you choose - I worked these samples in green aran-weight cotton/silk mix, purple chunky-weight handspun wool, the striped bag is worked in three aran-weight yarns.
