#234 Contrivance
Sometimes I design a pattern without a complete plan in mind (gasp!). But soon enough, I’ve got it figured out and the end result in this case is rather pleasingly organic in its aesthetic and process!
This asymmetrical triangular shawl begins at one corner with some basic increases, decreases, and all Garter stitch. Once the shaping is nicely established (and you’ve learned the simple increase pattern), it will continue as the columns of teardrop shapes get incorporated.
This is where it gets interesting, IMHO, and some rules will be introduced to guide your knitting!
But “non-rule-followers” never fear! The first 82 rows are fully charted and written out so you can really “learn” the shaping and the rules before you are set free to finish the shawl! If you wish to knit more or fewer rows than I did for my sample, the instructions explain how to proceed.
The finished shawl is a lovely, versatile accessory that drapes wonderfully around your shoulders or neck. You’ll finish this project and be so proud of yourself for successfully being a “rule-following” knitter, even if you aren’t prone to that in real life!
