#217 Sweetheart Roses
Sweetheart rose buds are delicate, romantic flowers bespeaking the promise of the unfurled rose. These knitted and felted beauties forever capture the moment before the rose opens. These classic favorites are easy to knit and work up quickly. It is possible to make an entire bouquet in one day.
Decorate the fronts of small bags (the cover picture features our #130 Petit Four Bags pattern), or twine together up the lapel of a favorite coat. Tie a single rose onto the top of a gift box, or knit a spray for the top of your garden hat. Make with beaded feltable wool or decorate with beads and sequins yourself. The possibilities are endless…
Fibers We Love to Use!
All pictured flowers were made with Tilli Tomas’s Flurries. The white bag was made with Tilli Tomas’s Whistler in Natural and the flowers were made with Flurries in Decco Choral, Red, Ruby Wine, and Raspberry. The pink bag was made with Whistler in Dusty Pink and the flowers were made with Flurries in Hope and Hydranges. Unbeaded stems were made with Shepherd’s Wool in Lime.
Our Recommendations: We suggest fine worsted weight wool or alpaca yarns in colors you love:
-
Tilli Tomas’s Flurries (100% Merino, 70 yds/skein) for beaded flowers.
-
Plymouth’s Galway (100% wool, 210
yds/ball). -
Louet’s Riverstone (100% wool, 193 yds/skein).
-
Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd’s Wool (USA made 100% Merino, 250 yds/skein).
-
Lorna’s Laces Bullfrogs & Butterflies (85% wool/15% mohair hand dyed yarn 190 yds/skein).
-
Harrisville Designs’ Orchid (25% mohair/70% wool/5% cashmere, 245 yds/skein).

Wool allergies? Try felting Alpaca: Tree Frog Yarns’ Alpaca, Blue Sky Alpaca, Misti Alpaca, and Plymouth Baby Alpaca all in worsted weights.
