July 2, 2019: I fully support Ravelry’s expanded rules regarding hate speech, and am grateful that they are making overdue changes based on the difficult and dangerous work many BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ members of the crafting community have been doing for so long. If you disagree with me, please feel free to put me on your boycott list and not buy my patterns.
The ribbed chevron patterning in this hat is created through symmetrically placed increases and decreases. The ribbing makes it nice and clingy, and the chevron patterning gently scallops the brim, so that it follows the contours of the wearer’s head and face.
This hat is not difficult to knit. It is mostly knits and purls, with a variety of types of increases and decreases to create the patterning. An adventurous beginner who is willing to learn new types of increases and decreases should be able to knit this hat, though the shaping should help keep the attention of a more experienced knitter, too.
