I’ve only designed socks so far, but have ideas for sweaters and cardigans for the future.
I really enjoy the creative process of taking an idea from my head and turning it into something tangible that can be worn. I get inspired by all sorts of things, but often by things that I see around me. I designed on set of socks based on a bundt cake tin that I have, and have ideas for socks based around blades of grass and the interlocking steel girders of a gasometer - whether I can realise these ideas remains to be seen!
My current love is cables, their versitility and the way you can twist them around the foot, especially using increases and decreases. I also like that they look really complicated but are actually fairly easy to execute.
Knitting is a relatively new hobby for me, and i’ve been knitting for just over three years in a wierd, self-taught, quasi-continental style that looks very strange to the observer, but works well for me.
As well as knitting I enjoy designing and making my own clothes, beading and embroidery and have stashes that reflect each of those hobbies that rival my yarn stash! I hoard, but I like to think that I do it in a creative way.
I live in London with my cats Muffin and Purdey and I attend I Knit London meetings regularly, as my day time work allows! Knitting started as a hobby but has become far more than that through the friends I have made.
