wee mushroom
“Life lines are entangled: candy cane and matsutake; matsutake and its host trees; host trees and herbs, mosses, insects, soil bacteria, and forest animals; heaving bumps and mushroom pickers. Matsutake pickers are alert to life lines in the forest; searching with all the senses creates this alertness. It is a form of forest knowledge and appreciation without the completeness of classification. Instead, searching brings us to the liveliness of beings experienced as subjects rather than objects.”
― Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing, The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins
I want to thank you for all of your much appreciated and constant support. You make it possible for me to use the skills I have and explore and grow designs I want you to enjoy!
And with that thought in mind - I hope you take pleasure with this pattern and decorate your space with a few wee mushrooms this year!
This is a pattern for a small mushroom knit in 2 pieces in the round and with a bit of embroidered detail. Have fun, experiment with colour and stitchery!
yarn:
Shetland 4ply by Gathered Sheep Yarns; Fingering; 100% Pure Shetland Wool; 233yds (213m)
approximate yarn amounts:
Small amounts of yarn in 2 or 3 colours; approximately 1.5g - 2g per colour
I used Hot Cherry & Kamelos for my shorter mushroom and Ghoulish Cocktail & Kamelos for my taller mushroom.
needles:
2.0mm (us no 0) DPNs 4in/10cm
gauge:
32 sts x 32 rows = 4in/10cm measured over stockinette
Though gauge is not important for this project, you will want to make sure your sts are tight.
approximate finished size:
shorter - 1.5in / 3.5cm (h) x 1.5 / 3.5cm (d)
taller - 2in / 5cm (h) x 1.5 / 3.5cm (d)
additional tools:
needle to weave in ends, small bit of wool stuffing
