Volant
When Kim asked me to design the pattern for her yarn club again, I happily obliged. This time the theme was ‘Women in history’. I chose Amelia Earhart instantly, the very brave, adventurous and independent soul. Her accomplishments in aviation inspired many women to become pilots. Great number of books have been written about her life as well.
When thinking about this shawl design I have imagined a piece in metallic silver/grey colour just like aluminium used for plane building. The name for it came first, though. ‘Volant’, flying in French, seemed perfect.
’Volant’ is a large triangular shawl knit in a light fingering weight yarn. The yarn shown is a new one from Woollen Rabbit called ‘Paulina’, very soft and silky blend with a generous length.
The shawl is knitted on bias from right tip to the left edge which gives it a fabulous drape. A pretty lace pattern frames easy garter stitch middle and creates a beautiful final piece. The top edge knitted in garter stitch has added bobbles and gives ‘Volant’ different styling possibilities.
The are two sizes available, medium and large, both pretty generous.
The pattern is written and charted.
A good project for moderately advanced knitters.
