Villanelle
A top down construction and modern take on a traditional Icelandic lopapeysa. Inspired by the vibrant and fun handdyed colours by Slettuskjótt. (… and by Villanelle in BBC´s “Killing Eve”). Children´s version Nellý: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nelly---mini-vil...
CARDIGAN instructions in English only as addendum since Jan. 2022 - cardie knitted back and forth, no steeking!!!
Plötulopi held double and knitted with 6,5 mm will give you a very airy but warm sweater, the perfect summer sweater for Iceland, with a beautiful drape.
There is NO stranded knitting, only one colour per round, the zigzag is created with a chevron pattern. The fit is very relaxed and with a recommended 12- 20 cm/ 5“ -7.5“ ease, the ribbing at the bottom is split on the sides. Short rows make the sweater a bit longer and draping nicely in the back. Very comfortable to wear and intended to be extra big!
The plötulopi from www.thingborg.net is softer than other plötulopi and I highly recommend it. Made from handpicked lamb´s fleeces the natural colours are indeed undyed and less processed (=softer!) while the handdyed colours by Slettuskjótt are just amazingly beautiful and fun. (see www.thingborg.net) - If you are lucky you can find some rare and grey Feldfé plötulopi at the Spinning Sisters.
The original version is in colour stripes - but there are notes in the pattern on how to make a lacey version with all the increases as yarn overs and maybe just in one colour. Super versatile pattern - the kid´s pattern is called Nellý link text
