The Libby Cowl
This colourful 5 ply cowl starts and ends with a double knitted hem and picot fold to give a pretty edge top and bottom. Knitted in the round on circular needles, it is a repeat design which can be knitted in 2 ways - with the motifs on each ‘row’ alternating vertically, or lined up in columns. (Flat lay photo shows you both motif patterns.)
Because the floats on the body cover only 2 or 4 stitches, it is unnecessary to catch them on the back. The colour choices are up to you, but this cowl would look fabulous in a solid paired with a wild multicoloured yarn. My example uses a dark solid background with 3 rich contrasting colours.
For more drape, you can use a 4mm (instead of a 3.75mm) circular needle, 60cm long. For a wider cowl, add stitches in multiples of 8. (Each 8 sts gives you an extra 2.3cm/7/8” circumference.)
Approximate 5 ply yarn weights used in the Libby Cowl: 65g Aztec, 16g Burnt Orange, 6g Harvest Gold and 6g Marigold.
