Sweet Eleanor
I was inspired to create this hat in honor of Eleanor Dickson, and happy to say that the profits from the first 500 copies of the pattern went directly to the family. As of 7/1/10, Eleanor has no cancer remaining in her body, and the family’s medical bills for her continuing treatment are covered into next year! Update: As of 11/2015, Eleanor has been declared cancer free!
Eleanor is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old girl, whose parents discovered she had cancer on 1/8/10. The next day Eleanor underwent surgery to remove her kidney which was engulfed by a 13cm tumor, a cancer known as Wilms’ tumor. Starting the third week of January 2010, Eleanor will be receiving chemo treatments for the next 8 months in hopes of shrinking masses present on her lungs.

Day 3: 100 patterns sold! The Dicksons are so thankful for your support!
Week 1: You’ve allowed me to give over $730 in just one week. So overwhelmed by and grateful for your generosity!
Almost 2 weeks: $1,000 raised. Thank you everyone!
3/4/10 Update: CT scan done after first round of chemo. Mass still present on lower left side of Eleanor’s lung. Mass on the right is gone. Masses present around her aorta and below her diaphragm (which they were not aware of). Whole abdominal radiation will be next.
6/25/10 update: CT showed no evidence of disease!! Eleanor will be considered in remission until 5 years of NED. Over $2,200 has been raised via sales. I can’t thank you all enough!
11/1/10 update: CT continues to show no evidence of disease, she is still in remission! Her left kidney has also grown to compensate for the loss of the right.
3/17/11: Still in remission!
7/26/11: Celebrating 1 year in remission.
Cabled beanie style hat features two cables, the larger of which decreases into a star-like pattern on the crown. Hat is worked bottom up. I suggest a light worsted to heavy DK weight yarn - the looser the gauge the stretchier the hat will be, a tighter gauge will make for a denser, warmer hat. Written instructions with abbreviations and full charted. Two sizes available “to fit” average child and adult size heads (finished measurements given). Pattern is also easily modified through varied gauge and number of repeats completed.
Pattern has been test knit by a wonderful group of women, full support available from designer as well.
