Stardust Variations
Have you ever had a “love at first sight” moment when you spotted the perfect skein of hand-dyed yarn? But when you get home, you have no idea what to make with only one skein of precious high-end yarn. We all have these “yarn crushes” from time to time and, if you’re like me, they tend to gather in baskets, ignored, crying “Knit me!” in their tiny, yarny voices.
While looking for stitch patterns to complement my latest yarn crush in my favorite bluish grey, I heard about the passing of my childhood idol, David Bowie. Inspired by his many artistic reinventions, I designed a twist-stitch cowl with five different variations: five yarn weights in five different, but equally gorgeous, hand-dyed, bluish-grey colorways. As a tribute to Bowie, “stardust” seemed like the perfect name for this color.
Instructions are provided for the following gauges:
- Sport, approx. 325 yards
- Worsted, approx. 230 yards
- Chunky, approx. 200 yards
- Bulky, approx. 150 yards
- Super Bulky, approx.90 yards
And let all the children boogie!
Clarification, January 7, 2018: after a question from kaitsknits, I want to add a pattern note that the instruction to “insert right-hand needle from back in-between the stitches… “ can also be written as “insert right-hand needle into stitch closest to left-hand needle and purl through front loop.“ Thanks!
