The sharqi is a biannual wind in the Middle East that blows from the southeast. Its name is derived from the Arabic word for east. Lasting from April to June, and again from September to November. They are dry and dusty, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, often bringing sand storms that can carry sand a few miles into the air, even shutting down airports for short periods of time. The winds themselves can last from a full day to several days, depending on the time of season. These gauntlets, sized for children to adults, imitate that sand and height with seed stitch and the pointing cable. With a crocheted chain to keep them firmly in place, these mitts will not blow away!

Gauge: Child Size - 36 stitches and 56 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm) over Chart A, using US size 1 (2.25 mm) needles, blocked

Women’s Small/Medium - 23 stitches and 52 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm) over Chart A, using US size 3 (3.25 mm) needles, blocked

Women’s Large/Men’s Medium - 21 stitches and 44 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm) over Chart A, using US size 5 (3.75 mm) needles, blocked
