Sardonyx
A symbol of bravery, the red sardonyx has been used for protection by the ancient Romans; the gem is also said to embody happiness, confidence, and optimism. Named for this fascinating gem, this comfortably relaxed cardigan features interesting all-over cables. The cable pattern may look intricate but is easy to work and creates a richly textured fabric that looks great on both sides (CHART ONLY). Designed to be worn with draped open fronts, the cardi can be belted or pinned with a special shawl pin.
The cardigan is constructed simply with modified drop shoulders, from the top down, in four pieces for easy seaming; the seams provide support for the dense fabric. The deep collar is picked up after the shoulders are seamed and worked in snuggly garter stitch along the front edges and neckline. The bottom edges of the body and sleeves are left without special hem treatments thanks to the rib-based cables, which keep the edges from rolling. The body and sleeves can be easily customized to just about any length thanks to the simple shaping.
