Royal chevron beret/tam is an elegant, warm, 2 color winter hat in chevron design. Pattern is charted and written in English. This beret is knitted in the round, from the bottom up. It can be done in two ways: you can knit it with slipped (shifted) stitches, using only one color in each round (you have a written pattern stitch by stitch, round by round) or using a stranded colorwork knitting technique (you follow a chart).
You need :
- Skills: intermediate knitting knowledge, colorwork, knitting in the round;
- Needles:
- 16” (40cm) circular needle and DPNs (4+1) in US 7 / 4,5mm;
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends;
- Yarns - 2 skeins in 2 different colors (C1 and C2) of DK weight woolen yarn, or you can combine DK and sport weight yarn, tightly stranded, in favorite color combination (solid, colorful or self striping, with lame, sequins, beads…);
- shown women’s beret – normal size (L/XL) is made with: C1 color: approx. 60gr Alize Lanagold Classic Solids (240m~262yds/100gr) in almond (152) and C2 color: approx. 50gr Alize Superlana Klasik (280m~307yds/100gr), in shaded brown;
- 12 clover locking stitch markers (1+11);
Dimension (flat, fixed):
- brim circumference: 48-49cm/19.6”,
- depth: 22cm/8.8”
- diameter: 26cm/10.4” One size fits all. Gauge: 20sts/22rows = 4”x4” = 10x10cm in stranded chevron pattern
