The Rejiggerate tee is a lightweight summer top that uses short rows to do lots of fun things.
It’s worked entirely seamlessly, with short rows shaping both the asymetric lace banding at the bottom, and the gentle curve of the neckline.
This neckline shaping takes place in the final stocking stitch section, meaning that the neckline lace is worked in simple rows back and forth – with no picking up stitches, and no complex shaping.
And with its contrast colour armhole frills, lace, and narrow contrast stripes, the Rejiggerate tee is fantastic for showing off colour pairings. Go subtle with different shades of the same colour, or go big with two strongly contrasting colours – the choice is up to you.
The Rejiggerate tee comes in 9 sizes, sized to fit from a 28 to 62in bust – with an optional bust adjustment taking the fit range up to 66in.
Key information
The Rejiggerate tee is worked seamlessly from the bottom up, with a modified drop shoulder that ensures it fits and looks the same across all 9 sizes. The asymmetric lace banding is set up with short rows on one side of the garment. Once the lace bands have been completed, short rows are used to raise the other side until the two sides are even – at which point the garment is worked in rounds until the armhole splits.
An optional bust adjustment starts just before the split for the front and back, adding 4in / 10cm to the front of the garment only – meaning that those with fuller busts can get a tee that fits well all over, not just on their bust or on the rest of them. The neckline is shaped with short rows, before a final lace detailing and three needle bind off. The armhole frills finish the tee off with a dash of whimsy – and give a chance to show off more of the contrast colour.
Where numbers vary, instructions are written as size 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) 6, 7, 8, 9.
Suggested yarn: 4ply/fingering weight yarn that knits to gauge. The sample uses The Camels Yarn 4ply (425m / 465yds per 100g) in the Pollen and Spring Skies colourways.
Yarn requirements:
Size 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) 6, 7, 8, 9:
610 (650, 700, 765, 840) 920, 980, 1050, 1120m / 670 (715, 770, 840, 915) 1000, 1070, 1150 ,1220 yds of main colour yarn
290 (295, 300, 320, 350) 370, 400, 420, 450m / 315 (320 330, 350, 380) 405, 425, 455, 490 yds of contrast colour yarn.
If you’re working the optional bust adjustment, you’ll need approx an extra 12m / 13yds of main colour yarn, and 5m / 6yds of contrast.
Finished size and fit suggestions - see table in pictures for measurements
The Rejiggerate tee is designed to be worn with 0-2in / 0-5cm of positive ease for a close fit.
The dimensions shown in the table below are the measurements of the finished garment – with the exception of the upper bust measurement, which is an actual body measurement.
To get the best fit, take your upper bust measurement (measured at your underarms and over the top of your bust), and pick the size that is the closest match to this actual body measurement. If you have a full bust, you may find that this size is smaller than you’d usually knit; if so, then you can work the optional bust adjustment to get a better all-over fit than you’d achieve from knitting a larger size.
