notes
Twisted, traveling, and wrapped stitches and tiny cables produce a variety of embossed textures in these firmly knitted socks. The legs are worked on a size larger needle than the heel and foot to compensate for the draw-in of the smocked pattern that runs along the back of the leg to the heel flap. The heel flap is worked in an unconventional pattern of twisted stitches and tiny cables that extend from patterns along the sides of the leg. The embossed chevron pattern on the front of the leg is continuous across the top of the foot to the beginning of the toe, which is worked in stockinette stitch. For knitting ease, be sure to use needles that have long, sharp tips.
