Linked Tweed
Linked Tweed shawl/cowl is knitted with stunning reversible cables. The finished accessory is basic, warm, strong, and versatile. Basic, because of the simple 3 by 2 rib design. All 3-knit/2-purl ribs are on the side that result in the large 10-row cables, and all 2-knit/3-purl ribs are on the other side that result in the smaller 6-row cables. Every 60 rows one strand of the double-stranded yarn is changed. (red-red, red-beige, beige-beige, beige-white, white-white, white-red). Warm, because the double stranded ribs and cables on both sides of the fabric build a nearly impenetrable cold barrier. Strong, because Stroll Tweed contains 25% Nylon for extra strength and since it is knitted double stranded the fabric is extra strong. Versatile, because the resulting shawl can be finished several different ways:
- Decorate the ends with fringe and wear it as a shawl
- Sew the ends together to form a cowl
- Twist the shawl once and then sew the ends together to form a cowl with a moebius twist Finished Measurements: Shawl 52 in long x 6 ¼ in wide; Cowl 52 in circumference x 6 ¼ in wide. Work the pattern 2 times for a longer shawl at 104 in long x 6 ¼ in wide. Gauge is not important. It takes about 300 yards of fingering weight yarn for each of the 3 colors. Use size 2 size US 5 or 6 dpns as cable needles.
