Kingston Beanie
The Kingston Beanie is one of five patterns in Independent Fabrication, a collection of accessory patterns knit in small-batch yarns. The eBook is available on Ravelry, or you can purchase a print book + eBook bundle at my website, tightlyknitdesigns.com
Striking rope cables flank wedges of welts in this gansey-inspired beanie, while hidden decreases draw the crown in to its dramatic conclusion. An engaging knit, Kingston craves a high-impact yarn. The silk fibers in Elemental Affects’ Civility Worsted absorb dye differently than Merino, giving the yarn the characteristic sheen that makes each stitch pop and shine, while producing a light, warm fabric. Using an optional tubular cast-on for a polished finished edge, the Kingston Beanie makes for a striking, sophisticated pop of color in your wardrobe all winter long.
Sizes
To fit S/M (M/L) adult heads; 22” / 56 cm (24” / 61 cm). Finished dimensions (unstretched, after blocking): 17” / 43 cm (18” / 46 cm) circumference; 8.25” / 21 cm tall (height is adjustable).

Elemental Affects Civility Worsted (70% U.S. Merino wool, 30% silk; 250 yards / 229 meters per 112 grams); 1 (1) skein. Sample knit in “Clove.” Or, 220 yards / 200 meters of worsted-weight wool or wool-blend yarn.
Gauge
24 sts and 32 rounds per 4” / 10 cm in Jacob’s Ladder Cable Pattern on larger needles.
Needles
16” / 40 cm circular needles in sizes US 5 / 3.75 mm and US 7 / 4.5 mm, and double-pointed needles in same sizes, or sizes needed to obtain gauge. Alternatively, you can use two circular needles or one circular needle 32”/ 80 cm or longer for magic loop. If doing the optional long-tail tubular cast on, I recommend a straight needle in the smaller size.

Skills Required
Cabling (with or without a cable needle), long-tail tubular cast on (optional), increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round.
