The top-down lace crescent of Hexton is a sequence of laces, celebrating legendary beasts: the unicorn, the dragon and the Phoenix. Start at the beginning, or part-way through, as you prefer. The lace-charts forming the body of the design may be be repeated as you please, and the border and edging either extended or curtailed/omitted, so the shawl is highly adaptable in size.

Suitable for any yarn, from cobweb to fingering weight, that knits with good stitch-definition. A shawl made from the full set of laces would need at least 400m/440yds of yarn - both samples on the left used a good deal more - whilst a shawlette, comprising just part of the complete sequence, could be made with less yarn.

Please note that the pattern is given as charts only, with little written explanation. It should present no difficulties to knitters with experience of working lace and the ability to read their stitches, but is not really suitable for beginners.
