The whole garment is worked flat from the top down in rows in two main sections as shown in detailed schematics, folded and seamed under the arms before working the sleeves in rnds.
This beginner-friendly CAPE-CARDIGAN is as easy to wear as it is to knit and a perfect piece to quickly throw over your shoulders when feeling chilly while working at your desk (or while knitting)!
It has a beginner-friendly, straightforward construction based on rectangles in garter stitch. The final shape comes together when folding the project and seaming the front edges to the back rectangle.
Short rows allow for a better fit around the neck and give the hem a slightly tailored cut, while a shaped underarm section provides for a natural sleeve position.
A neckband lining in a contrasting colour, short sleeves in basket weave stitch and striped sections at the underarms give this basic design a refined touch.
You can wear the finished piece either with the neckband on the top or upside down, or with the stripes on your chest (both ways are shown on the left). It’s very versatile and works as a casual or elegant item that finds itself in between a garment and an accessory.
Both options can also be worn open or held closed at the front with a shawl pin, brooch or even cufflinks (as shown in the last picture on the left).
This pattern was designed exclusively for the Nature’s Luxury Gourmet Knitting Resort in October 2023 (This gourmet-food related resort that takes place in Germany, together with the name of the yarn inspired the name for this cape).
