Happy Birthday Socks
The perfect gift for anyone’s birthday, just change up the colours to match the recipient.
They are knitted from the cuff down, with a short colourwork section on the leg (no more than 2 colours at once) followed by straight knitting for the rest of the leg and after the heel. Sharply contrasting cuff, heel and toes make these fun socks really pop!
They are made with a Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel - there is a link in the pattern to a video from Earthstones Girl which explains this heel, but you can use any other heel if you prefer.
The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small (UK 5-6), medium (UK 6-7) and large (UK 7-8), but is very easily customizable to fit your own foot. As you’re knitting from the cuff down, you can slip your work over your foot to check the fit of the leg, heel and foot as you go.
Suitable for confident knitters with experience of knitting stranded colourwork and knitting in the round.
I’ve used Drops Fabel yarns to knit these socks, it’s lovely to work with and very reasonably priced as well as easy to get hold of in balls of 50g. You will need 1 ball of Confetti Cake and around 10g each of Dark Pink, Purple and Grey Blue.
Any 4 ply sock yarn will do, however, the gauge I’ve worked to is 32 stitches to 34 rows using 2.5mm double pointed needles - you can use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer, but bear in mind that the pattern is written assuming you’re using DPNs.
I have tried to make this pattern as user friendly as possible, but will provide you with my email address when you download the pattern, if you have any issues at all, do get in touch and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my listing, if you have any questions before purchasing, do get in touch.
