Evelyn means much “wished for child” and though this cardigan is not a child I have been wanting one like this for awhile and somehow the name seems fitting. Cables add wonderful structural details to garments, like the cable on the back that starts out as a braid then moves into single rope like cables giving structure to the back pleat. The yoke of this cardigan is fitted while the back pleat adds ample room to body making it like a swing jacket. This also makes it flattering and very comfortable to wear. It will surely be a versatile addition to your wardrobe. I designed it with Blue Sky Alpaca Extra, a blend of baby alpaca and merino wool. This was my first time working with this yarn and I was thrilled with it! It is a wonderful yarn that is very soft and has a lovely drape perfect for this design.

Yarn: Blue Sky Alpaca Extra, 55% alpaca, 45% merino; 199m (218 yds) per 150g skein; color: #3524 Canyon, 5 (6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10) skeins, 1025 (1103, 1182, 1337, 1412, 1472, 1659, 1734, 1798, 1939, 2003) yds.
Needles: Size 8/5mm 24” (or longer) circular needle and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles.
Other: Stitch markers, stitch holders, spare circular needle or waste yarn, cable needle, tapestry needle, size 34mm buttons and size 21mm snaps (see notes below).
Gauge: 16 sts and 22 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch. 22-st Back Chart = 3” wide, 16-st Front Chart = 2.25” wide, 14-st Sleeve Chart = 2” wide.

Notes: This cardigan is constructed from the top down in one piece with set-in sleeves. The shoulders are shaped by short rows. This cardigan is designed with a tailored fit in the yoke but with a slight positive ease in the bust, and loose fitting from there down. Check the across back measurement to help determine the size to make. If you desire a larger or smaller back pleat you may change the rate of increases.
The length of the body and sleeves is easily adjusted.
The “buttonhole band” does not have buttonholes; the jacket is designed to use snaps instead of buttons. Both bands are worked as part of the body of the cardigan. You may use as many buttons and snaps as you desire.
