Easy Hats & Mittens (AC20)
Easy to knit hats and mittens for children and adults. Instructions given for both worsted and bulky weight yarns.
Sizes:
Child’s small and medium; adult small, medium, and large. Use adult small to make a child’s large.
The ribbed hats are very elastic and will fit head measurements of 20 (21, 22, 23, 24) inches or larger.
Yarn Requirements:
Hat in worsted wt: Approx. 180 (200, 220, 240, 260) yards
Hat in bulky wt: Approx. 130 (150, 170, 190, 210) yards
Mittens in worsted wt: Approx. 95 (115, 140, 165, 190) yards
Mittens in bulky wt: Approx. 70 (90, 115, 145, 180) yards
Needles & Gauges:Note: All gauges are given in stockinette stitch and for mittens are with the larger needle size.
Worsted wt hats: 16” (40 cm) circular and a set of double pointed needles in size 8 (5 mm), or size needed to obtain a gauge of 18 sts to 4” (10 cm).
Bulky wt hats: 16” (40 cm) circular and a set of double pointed needles in size 10 (6 mm), or size needed to obtain a gauge of 14 sts to 4” (10 cm).
Worsted wt mittens: Size 5 & 7 (3.75 & 4.5 mm) double pointed needles, or size needed to obtain a gauge of 20 sts to 4” (10 cm).
Bulky wt mittens: Size 7 & 9 (4.5 & 5.5 mm) double pointed needles, or size needed to obtain a gauge of 15 sts to 4” (10 cm).
