Cygnus
Inspired by the shapes of the wings of flying birds, Cygnus combines a beautiful traditional Estonian lace pattern with interesting textures in a modern interpretation of a lace wrap. An elongated crescent, this shawl is a versatile addition to any wardrobe; it can be worn loose around the neck as a long scarf or wrapped around the shoulders for a more traditional look.
This wrap uses an easy construction; it is worked end-to-end in one piece, increasing in width to the half-way point and then decreasing again (CHART ONLY). Thanks to this construction, this design will accommodate just about any yardage.
Cygnus features an easy-to-knit garter stitch body together with a wide lace border, which combines areas of stockinette stitch with garter stitch details and beads for interesting texture (120 4.00mm 6/0 seed beads). If desired, the beads can be replaced with traditional nupps or the shawl can be worked without any embellishment.
Note about the gray squares in the chart:
The gray squares are the Area of Increases and Decreases as described in the pattern notes. This space is going to gradually grow from the single stitch cast on to the center depth and again decrease to a single stitch for the bind off. These stitches should be worked in garter stitch, knit on both sides.
This applies to the book version and only to the pdfs downloaded before August 30, prior to the correction.
