Bonjour Chicken
This is a simple, top-down, raglan sweater with a button placket on one shoulder… You know, for your bobble-headed cutie pie.
The slow color changes of our worsted millspun, Independence, is really highlighted by striping with a solid yarn. We love Cascade Eco Cloud (and Cloud) for its cool chainette texture and soft merino/alpaca blend.
Size options are 3, 6, and 12 months. You’ll also need 3 or 4 buttons. I confess, I didn’t weigh either skein to see how much was left over before the got absorbed into the next projects, but there was a lot left from each. There was enough of Independence remaining to crochet a baby version of Not Your Granny’s Skirt (see our projects page). Sorry to not be more specific, but hey, free pattern!
A word on Independence:
The latest offering from Spincycle Yarns is completely domestic. The sheep are raised in the Midwestern US; the fiber is dyed and milled on the west coast of Washington. Even the tag is designed and made from paper milled in the USA. We support our local economy; that’s how we got our start as a handspinnery and it’s where our hearts lie.
This yarn is a balanced, worsted weight single, with the thick-and-thin texture of a handspun yarn. The color transitions are slow and dramatic. We kettle dye each batch with care and intention, and our collaboration with a nearby fiber mill ensures that our yarn maintains the color artistry of our original handspun product. Unique, luxe, and handmade sustainably in the USA.
